In February 1982, rock legend Ozzy Osbourne made San Antonio history in one of the most infamous rock-and-roll mishaps ever. While on tour, Ozzy went out wearing one of Sharon Osbourne’s dresses after his stage clothes were confiscated to keep him out of trouble. After a long night of drinking, he stopped near what he thought was an ordinary monument and urinated on it, only to discover it was the Alamo Cenotaph, a memorial honoring those who died in the Battle of the Alamo.
He was immediately arrested for public intoxication and banned from performing in San Antonio for 10 years. Ozzy later apologized twice and was finally allowed to return in 1992 to formally make amends, even donating $10,000 to the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and expressing deep respect for the historic site.
Today, the incident lives on as one of rock history’s wildest and most talked-about stories, half cautionary tale, half legendary piece of Ozzy folklore.
